Recently I had a jarring nightmare in which a ferocious abomination of a Cobra-Basilisk attempted to penetrate my house, which was made of sea-glass. There are many Serpent varieties, but this was not one with whom one aspires to frolic! This beast was grotesque, both in spirit and designāfrom the tattered folds of its leaking, leathery skin to the ferocity of its incorrigible ghastly movements. It bore a resonance of intangible, incalculable wickedness, its psychic origin emanating from some veiled crypt! (I do contextually associate [non-Abrahamic] underworlds with positive qualities, like sensuality, mystery and arcane knowledge.) The event took place in the sterile daylight; there was nothing to be hidden by the florid scorch of the Sun. Nevertheless, this astral experience was impetus to immerse more deeply in the smoky subterranean of myth and magic, examine why at first, particular visuals are āterrifyingā spirituallyāand how to interact with āshadowā aspects of reality in a sustainable, transformative way. Harsh, astringent experiences are often the most Strengthening, washing our Ego of path-wrecking contaminants, ultimately redeeming us.

To speak of polarity, the Tantric Wisdom Goddesses or Dasha Mahavidya are all associated with some aspect of Night, and reveal the mysterious, hidden aspects of reality when the midnight ink does swallow the Sunādevouring us into a dimension where Time-Space is obsolete. Further, it is precisely the wisdom of vidya (sacred knowledge) that we require to harness and direct the shadow energy responsibly toward our Will, as not to be ruined by it. Reflective, honest contemplation reveals, there is no sense in shoving shadow down to expand in the murky, gelatinous swamp. There is a resurgence of Spirit in unearthing by the light of the Sun, where it can be āwashed by fireā. The passion for celestial exploration is often born of the most morose conditions, ultimately exalting us from the bowels of the terrestrial womb to the astral fire of the Sunās scorching embrace; lending heat to seedlings gestating; giving them Strength to bare their face!
