THE CARNIVAL CROSSWAYS THE BLACK OCEAN

[The Fool and the Spiritual Quest]

Many persons are prone to experimenting with various mental attitudes and their effects. Surely, it is up to the aspirant to carve subjective particulars. If I were to offer simple counsel for any person commencing their spiritual quest—an attitude predicated on humor is entirely necessary. One contemplates; breaking from reality, swelling the ego, etc. as perhaps primary pitfalls in esotericism. Yet a loss of humor might prove ruinous above all.

As one deepens the practice; as in Life, there will be labyrinthine trials, bizarre experiences, and all sorts of delightful cacophony. One contemplates the children in IT battling their various fears projected into matter; or the Aghori sitting well-founded in the Smashan when meeting precarious spirits. Yes, a firm mind and robust foundation are necessity! As expressed in the classic text Aghora, a beneficial attitude is that of the Mother; sometimes she is firm, sometimes she is playful, depending upon what the child needs—but all is pressed against a backdrop of Play (Lila!) Or perhaps one considers Nietzsche’s idea of the Child! This does not negate suffering or sorrow, but merely transmutes the cosmic ‘stage’ or backdrop, permitting philosophical liberation!

“We are terrified of madness; we fear it, because the western mind is a house of cards, and the people who built that house of cards know that.” -Terrence Mckenna

One envisions the “fun house”; many electric quarters, winding paths, peculiar phantasms, but if a firm mind and sense of humor is preserved; in a sense, nothing can touch you. This is a central idea of the Tantras. Aghora is “deeper than deep”, deeper than the bottom of the Well beneath the Abyss, higher than the Tower, more expansive than the Ocean! Though the senses “arouse” gnosis; this is not about fanciful illusion, or a fogged placation with the materials; ‘it’ is beyond such these things.

Some persons may know, my favorite archetype is the FOOL, and favorite atmosphere is the CARNIVAL! Once you throw yourself open to the Goddess; everything else is just play! After the Netherworld, the Fool says; take the Leap of Faith and PLAY! “A SACRED YES!”

“I understand that every disturbance (which makes manifestation possible) implies deviation from perfection. It is for this reason that my individuality (which distinguishes me from every other beings) involves the idea of injustice. Therefore, to penetrate beyond the Abyss, where iniquity cannot exist, my personal self-hood must be annihilated.”  -Lemuel S. Innocent
