There are many types of Fire, but the most purifying and transformative is Love. In essence, the path of Bhakti Yoga is about amplifying devotion and sharing this love with our chosen Deity. Deities are personified forces of Nature, and we draw them into ourselves by venerating them. This concept may seem peculiar to the Western mind, when words like “devotion” or “worship” are viewed dualistically. But I will explain, because the concept is intensely beautiful. We actually partially replicate this Tantric process, emulating our favorite rock stars, movie stars, (living, dynamic archetypes) etc., who embody a quality, temperament or visual presentation we would like to cultivate. These figures are symbolic of our own latent potential. Perhaps we are able to speak more stylistically by saturating in Baudelaire, for example. This immersive play reduces the division between reader and author. The key, of course, is to venerate a suitable source through discernment. When the source is suitable to us, the process is enrichening, and the effects are fruitful. We are taken to Ourselves. So long as we are rooted in truth. We are rooted in truth when we gladly realize our Dharma and abide it more fluidly. There are less impediments to our self-exploration, communication and freedom. By following our Will or Dharma responsibly and skillfully, we are doing our duty to humanity. As a result, we are more joyful, amorous and energized, churning with life-force. Others are inspired to participate in this creative, affirming and world-embracing process.

To end this interpretation of the Tantric concept: ‘one becomes Shiva, to know Shiva.’ Through mantra and ritual, the subtle and physical body gradually take on the luminous qualities of Shiva (Or Bhairavi, Inanna, so on). Contemplating the face of our Beloved floods us with so much passion and pleasure, it is hopeless to elucidate with common language. The radiance then overcomes forces which attempt to eclipse it. This is why Music encapsulates this feeling best.

Please note:

The receptive, immersive and ethereal sign of Pisces contains many key themes that are integral to Bhakti Yoga. Jupiter rules Pisces. By this fact, Jupiter corresponds to Wisdom shared generously though the ETHER element (language, speech, music). So, to soak in the season, it was fitting to compose a reflection on fierce love, devotion and cosmic play. I hope you enjoy!

As always, my delight and gratitude to the following sources for enriching my understanding of Vedic and Tantric Concepts:
