We are foaming cauldrons of varied planetary drives, and each planet has a distinctive quality, theme, symbol and archetype. Some planets play a dominant role in our lives, and set the mood, tone and temperature of our lifeโ€™s work. โ€˜Beneficโ€™ planets are naturally smooth, glossy and quite easy to get on with, while โ€˜maleficsโ€™ are thorny and catabolic, exfoliating impurities harshly and rapidly. Please allow me to present my own example to illumine technical concepts. My dominant element is Fire and my key planet is Jupiter (philosophy, expansion). Jupiter is in Leo, thus Jupiter performs with the opulent qualities and attires of Leo: imagination, pleasure, storytelling, performance, devotion, leadership, affection and enduring love are all illustrious lexes of Leo. Hence a Jupiterian โ€˜styleโ€™ is combed and bejeweled by flairs of Leo. Jupiter (philosophy) + Leo (love, devotion) = Bhakti. This accounts for my infatuation with florid romance, thenceforth dramatized and extolled into divine love for the All-Attractive. There is, however, one more condition that texturizes my Jupiter in Leo.

Jupiter is conjunct Ketu (in House 12) thus sheathed by the intangible, inky embrace of this smoky, spectral shadow body. The direct nature of fiery Leo becomes then foggy and amorphous because of Ketu. Ketu and Jupiter together is often called Ganesha Yoga, relevant because Ganesha is Guardian of the Mysteries. Ketu has no head, so he must cultivate internal vision through Yoga. Ketu reduces interest in material reality and sublimates focus to higher, deeper matters; or, he exalts base, material events into higher, deeper experiences. Hence everything has potential to become a higher (or lower) gateway, depending upon point of orientation. Tantra reveals that our experience is not dependent upon the external world of objects, but is generated internally by Mind. However, it does not exclude or negate the external objects, but embraces them.

Profound gratitude to the following sources for deepening and strengthening my understanding of astrology, Tantric and Vedic concepts, notably Claire Nakti and Vic DiCara for their rich, fertile content, which is particularly relevant to this contemplation. I have been studying astrology for many years, but their insights have been markedly beneficial and illuminating, so I am very thankful ๐ŸŒน:
